The Challenge

The manufacturer was changing brand, theme and domain structure across several regional websites. The project carried overlapping risks: lost rankings, broken URLs, duplicated content, inconsistent country paths and a launch schedule involving internal developers, an external SEO specialist and regional marketing managers. A simple lift-and-shift could preserve old weaknesses, while an aggressive restructure could destroy existing search value.

What I Did

I coordinated the discovery and migration workstream. That included access to Google Analytics and Search Console, a cross-region competitor set, staging requirements, stakeholder briefings and the decision process for country domains versus a .com subdirectory structure. I made sure keyword research informed the new information architecture while existing high-value pages and queries were protected through mapped redirects and technical review.

How I Did It

  • 01: Benchmarked the keyword universe and competitor overlap for each region.
  • 02: Mapped existing and untapped queries to product, category and industry pages.
  • 03: Required a staging site early enough for crawl, redirect and template QA.
  • 04: Coordinated one-to-one and rule-based redirects through the website and delivery stack.
  • 05: Brought marketing, product and front-end perspectives into the category-tree review.

The Result

The discovery phase produced a cross-region search benchmark, a category-tree direction, a documented redirect-risk workstream and a staged technical review plan. It also identified quick-win keyword gaps in Australia and the United States without forcing an unnecessary wholesale restructure. The result was a migration programme designed to preserve current equity while creating room for new demand.

Why It Matters

I manage SEO migrations as commercial risk projects, not isolated technical tasks.
